George's Nightclub in San Rafael Friday February 4th

George's Nightclub
842 4th St.
San Rafael, CA 94901
Happy Hour Wednesday- Saturday 5 to 7

There was nothing happy about George's happy hour, in fact the whole experience was well below average.  George's atmosphere was something like a bowling ally, on the positive side, a very clean bowling ally.
Their happy hour offerings were "ok" for beverages, house wine (Kenwood) red or white $4, all well drinks $4, and draft beers $4.  Pretty standard happy hour beverage offerings.
The HH food menu offered many things for $5, they had a $5 hot dog, $5 French Fries, $5 mini burger, $5 Salad, and a couple other things.  There is nothing happy about a $5 happy hour hot dog, unless you are at AT&T park watching the Giants.  $5 for grease, small portion fries???
They had forgot to print out the happy hour menu, but the server was happy to look them up on the computer and recite them to you as you stood at the bar.  Actually she wasn't happy to look them up, but she would if you asked.  We ended up being our own server, and going up to the bar to get our drinks.  There really isn't much more to say but don't bother going, it's not worth your time or money.

Horizon's Restaurant in Sausalito Friday January 21st

Horizon's Restaurant
558 Bridgeway
Sausalito, CA 94965
Happy Hour Monday-Friday 4 to7pm

We arrived on a very gorgeous night in Sausalito. The weather was finally a little warmer after weeks of COLD. We walked in and the place was as it always has been: lacquered dark wood floor to ceiling with curvy short walls to not take away from the stellar view of San Francisco Bay and the city. We were happily given a large booth facing the bay to accommodate our large group because we planned to munch and chat.
The Happy Hour offering was surprising for this area. Nothing over $5. House White or Red wine , well drinks & 20 oz draft for $5 or 16 oz draft for $4.
Food:  Vegetarian Nachos with guac, sour cream & pico , Chipotle Shrimp (3 large) over a well dressed green salad, Skewered, marinated &  grilled  chicken (3) over peanut slaw, grilled Fish Tacos (2) with all the fixings,  ground beef sliders (2) with fries, etc. The food was very well prepared and generous for the price.
So far so good right? Well, there were some gaping areas that needed attention. The service was very spotty and not very informed. Lots of servers milling around and yet we had to flag down a waiter after sitting for awhile. Once we had a waiter we had to do the 20 questions to get the info. House Red wine? Yes. What varietal? I dunno. Can you find out please? Yes. Malbec. Thanks, what vintner? I dunno. Can you find out, please? Yes. Brings bottle. Thanks. White wine? Yes. What varietal?.....you get the picture. Can you please clear these plates? Thanks! Luckily we knew what the food was!!! For such an established and iconic place the service should be stellar. Also- we had a heating vent under our table that was kicking out some serious BTU’s. It wasn’t just the alcohol giving us a flush.
That said we gave great reviews as it truly is a warm and cozy environment in a beautiful town on a beautiful bay. The waning orange moon over Angel Island and the clear view of the sparkling city didn’t hurt, either. Lucky us to get to live here!
