1132 4th St.
San Rafael, CA 94901
Happy Hour 3:30 to 6:30 everyday
A GREAT location is sometimes the key to a successful place.
This was no exception- smack in the middle of 4th Street in San Rafael is a prime locale. The Broken Drum is half bar & half restaurant and they have a big glassed in patio with heat lamps out front all year round. Thou it's been too cold even for that set up these past few weeks.
A wood grill and large open kitchen make this a toasty and friendly place to hang out.
The service was good.....not great:( on a side note, our entire table commented on the fact our lovely server needed help getting a better fitting bra! The bill was a bit messed up and we were told that it was because we were "such a large group" and they were not able to keep track of who had what....huh? There was only 8 of us so how hard can it be if that is your job?
They make their own brew locally and offer a Double IPA, Whamber, Terrifico, Schwartz Lager, Bock, Pale Ale, Wheat, and a Summer Golden. Our crowd was pretty happy that all pints (except the Double IPA) were $4 for Happy Hour! They also offer a house red & white wine from Delicato Cellers for $4 a glass..mediocre but drinkable. All well drinks are also $4 during Happy Hour.
They had about 5-6 appetizers on their menu and they were reduced in price to $4 for HH except the calamari which was full price. We had some mediocre nachos, fairly good batter fried onions rings with a buttermilk dip a home made BBQ sauce dip - YUM.
Others tried the two styles of chicken wings with good feedback. Mostly it was OK food, nothing to run back there for. No one tried the garlic fries or the sweet potatoe fries, but you could smell them at nearby tables and they did smell pretty good.
Overall we gave it 6.7 out of 10
